O Mon Thermal Power Plant
More detailsLocated on the right bank of the Hau River in the O Mon District of Can Tho City & 130 km straight-line distance southwest of HCM City. It provided the National Gird with 3.6 billion kWh every year, helping normalize the grid and boost socioeconomic development of provinces in Mekong River Delta and nationwide. The plant's first turbine group, which has a capacity of 330 MW, officially began generating electricity in early February 2009. Its second turbine will become operational by 2012. The O Mon I plant is one of the four thermoelectric power projects with a combined capacity of 2,800 MW. Construction of the O Mon I power plant kicked off in the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho in February 2006. It is estimated to totally cost 6.66 trillion VND (around 404 million USD). |
